Hartshorn Organic Farm
Dave Hartshorn has been connected to the land all of his life. When he was young, he worked on his family’s dairy farm and in the maple syrup business. Dave went to college for agriculture and marketing. He’d always wanted to create a roadside vegetable and fruit stand, a dream he realized about 30 years ago. Dave operates the farm with the philosophy of sustainability and healthy stewardship–putting back what he takes out of the land. That’s why he chose to go the extra step and become certified organic over 28 years ago. Dave was the first farmer to vend at the popular Waitsfield Farmer’s Market, where he sold produce and maple syrup for 25 years. He sells to local stores, restaurants, and schools in addition to their farm stand. Dave is well known for his creative corn stalk structures that he builds each Fall to entertain and delight visitors to the farm. He and Amy have been adding educational and entertaining experiences and events on the farm for guests for the past 5 years. Dave is also an owner/partner of the year round, hydroponic greenhouse, Green Mountain Harvest Hydroponic.
Amy Todisco is a nationally recognized green living and wellness expert, life/health/business coach, and the Creator/Director of Vermont Food & Farm Tours and the new Vermont Farm Immersion Programs at Hartshorn Farm. She also manages the marketing and promotion for the farm, as well as event creation. For the past 25+ years, she’s advised, inspired, and encouraged clients to adopt a green living plan for their lives. She’s been an environmental activist, community organizer, and nonprofit leader and has been interviewed on TV, radio, print and podcasts. Amy has been gardening organically for most of her adult life and has been living with Dave on their organic farm in Vermont for the past 10 years. She’s spent many years creating events, wellness retreats, kid’s camps, team building and leadership workshops with horses and humans-she was even booked for the Oprah Winfrey show about 11 years ago. Inspiring and educating others to live a healthier life, in harmony with the earth and all living beings, is a huge passion of hers which underlies everything that she does.
